How can we re imagine the dead and dirty Tenement air shafts into resident-owned microclimates?Living Around Cores began with an investigation into New York’s
tenement airshafts—narrow voids that barely allowed light or air into people’s homes, revealing deep concerns for health and well-being.

The project re imagines these neglected spaces as interconnected cores that harness heat, steam, and water to create shared micro climates—gardens, solarium, and spaces for bathing and meditation—inviting residents to live together around what they collectively nurture.
